Description
PUR hot melt adhesive glue
PUR adhesive, the full name of which is polyurethane reactive hot melt adhesive glue, is a single-component, solvent-free hot melt adhesive glue. It is melted by heating and then solidified by cross-linking reaction with moisture in the air. It has the advantages of high strength, weather resistance, and chemical resistance. It is widely used in electronic product assembly, building materials, textile composites, book binding and other fields.
1. Why do furniture factories abandon EVA and turn to PUR?
“High rework rate due to edge degumming? The edge of the bathroom cabinet warps after half a year? The glue line is too ugly and customers complain?” – These shortcomings of traditional EVA glue are the core driving force of the explosion of PUR technology:
1. Rework rate from 8.2% to 0.9%
Accurate data from IKEA’s OEM factory: PUR glue molecules form a “steel network” after cross-linking, with a peel strength of 12.8MPa (EVA is only 4.2MPa), and zero glue debonding during transportation and collision
2. Resistant to extreme environments, say goodbye to after-sales claims
No brittle cracking in -40℃ cold storage, no deformation in 120℃ kitchen, and intact bonding surface after 48 hours of boiling in water (passed EN 14257 wet heat test)
3. The glue line is as thin as a hair (0.03mm)
Compared with the 0.2mm glue line of EVA, PUR is almost invisible, and “traceless edge banding” is standard for high-end furniture
2. PUR is not an “upgraded version of EVA”
Chemical-grade bonding vs. physical-grade bonding
- Features: PUR hot melt adhesive glue/EVA hot melt adhesive glue
- Reaction principle: cross-linking with moisture (irreversible)/cooling and curing (reversible)
- Boiling water resistance: 100 hours without shedding/2 hours cracking
- VOC emissions: <100g/liter (environmental protection line standard)/200g/liter (pungent odor)
Cost-saving black technology-Pur hot melt glue has 40% less glue application
Due to high viscosity (80000-120000mPa·s), PUR only needs 80-150g/㎡ (EVA needs 200-300g/㎡)
3. Choose the right PUR and avoid pitfalls-Purchasing decision list
- Match the material and choose the formula
PVC edge banding → Select the viscosity model (3500-4500mPa·s), fast curing (≤60 seconds)
Solid wood edge banding → High viscosity (≥5000mPa·s), fill wood pores
Acrylic → Open time > 10 seconds, avoid curing before pressing - Efficiency priority parameters
Open time: 4-10 seconds (no hassle in adjusting machine positioning)
Cleaning-free cycle: > 48 hours (reduce downtime, no carbonization of glue barrel)
Production line compatibility: 155-160℃ sol (directly replace EVA glue cylinder) - Avoid fake PUR – Three ways to inspect goods
Soak in hot water: Real PUR strips are still flexible after boiling in water for 1 hour, while fake ones become slag
Look at the wire drawing: Real PUR wire drawing in molten state at 160℃ is less than 5cm, while fake ones are greater than 20cm (including tackifier)
Check certification: Look for FDA food contact grade + UL flame retardant certification (essential for medical/children’s furniture)
Benefits of immediate action:
1. Receive 500g sample (test your board + edge band combination)
2. Get the “PUR Debugging Avoidance Manual” (including temperature/pressure/speed parameter table)
3. Engineer support (ensure mass production within 7 days)
Limited time consultation: Send your substrate type + production line speed to emily.gu@asiaedgebading.com to get a customized formula solution (reply within 12 hours)
