Acrylic edge banding material has several advantages over PVC edge banding:
- Color Stability: PVC boards tend to have poor color stability and can decompose during processing, often resulting in a yellowish background when compared to acrylic boards of the same color.
- Density: PVC has a density of 1.35-1.4 g/cm³, whereas acrylic has a lower density of 1.1 g/cm³. Therefore, when comparing boards of the same thickness and size, PVC will be noticeably heavier.
- Sound Quality: When two boards of similar size are dropped or tapped, acrylic produces a clearer, more resonant sound, while PVC has a duller sound.
- Burning Characteristics: When burned, acrylic produces a yellow flame with an alcohol smell and is nearly smokeless. In contrast, burning PVC emits a green flame, a hydrochloric acid smell, and generates white smoke.
