Our 21-step QA protocol begins before production. Raw Material Formulation and Resin Preparation
The process starts long before the first melt. Our in‑house compounders select virgin or custom‑formulated resins according to the specific demands of the furniture industry. For PVC Custom Edge Banding we can incorporate phthalate‑free plasticizers right at this stage; for ABS edge banding the polymer is chosen for superior impact resistance and zero chlorine content;
for melamine edge banding we prepare the impregnated décor paper; for acrylic (PMMA) edge banding we source high‑clarity pellets that will later achieve a glass‑like finish. Color masterbatch is dosed with spectrophotometric precision — a non‑negotiable step for custom color matching where Delta‑E tolerances sit below 0.5. Every incoming lot is tested for melt flow index and thermal stability because inconsistencies at this point would later cause glue line failure or surface chipping on the board maker’s trimming cutter.
Extrusion, Calendering and Surface Embossing
Once the dry blend or molten compound reaches the extrusion line, it passes through a flat‑die system that determines the initial Custom Edge Banding thickness. Back‑Priming, Pre‑Glue and Functional Coating
Not all Custom Edge Banding is meant to be processed with a separate hot melt adhesive (HMA). For customers who require faster assembly lines or a nearly invisible bond, we apply functional back layers in this department. For conventional systems, a micro‑thin primer boosts adhesion with both EVA adhesive and PUR adhesive. For Custom Edge Banding, we co‑extrude or precisely coat a laser‑activatable functional layer that melts at the wavelength of a diode or fibre laser.
This is the core technology that enables a true zero‑joint edge banding result — no observable glue line, no adhesive squeeze‑out that demands aggressive scraping or buffing later. When the customer requests pre‑glued tape, hot melt granulate — typically EVA hot melt adhesive — is remelted and film‑coated onto the reverse side of the edge banding at a precisely controlled coat weight. We measure the adhesive activation temperature with differential scanning calorimetry and record it on the technical data sheet, so that the end‑user can set their glue application pot or laser heating zone with full confidence.
Printing, Decorative Synchronisation and Protection
For decor‑intensive orders, especially melamine and printed PVC edge banding, this stage turns a monochromatic strip into a high‑fidelity design element. Rotogravure or digital printing equipment transfers the chosen pattern directly onto the base surface or onto a pre‑applied primer, followed by a transparent wear layer that withstands the friction of radius scraper tools, buffing wheels and end‑user daily use.
The printed pattern is again aligned with the specified grain direction, ensuring that when the cabinet maker performs end trimming and top and bottom trimming, the visual flow remains undisturbed. Real ‑ veneer edge banding (which we offer for solid wood applications) is spliced, sanded and pre‑coated in a separate controlled‑humidity hall, demonstrating the same respect for natural grain that our polymer‑based products receive.
Slitting to Final Width and Roll Winding
The master jumbo roll, often more than one meter wide, now enters our custom slitting department. Precision blades cut it down to the customer’s exact working width — anywhere from 12 mm to 620 mm.

Application‑Simulation Testing and Quality Gate
No roll is packed until it has passed extensive laboratory tests that replicate real‑world furniture manufacturing. We take a sample strip and run it through a fully instrumented automatic edge bander in our test centre. The sequence faithfully reproduces pre‑milling of a standard panel substrate (particleboard or MDF), glue application at the documented adhesive activation temperature, pressure roller pressing, end trimming, flush trimming, corner rounding with a radius scraper, final scraping and buffing.
Technicians inspect the glue line under 30× magnification, searching for micro‑voids that could initiate delamination. The trimmed edges are checked for chipping under a stereo microscope, and a pull‑off adhesion test is conducted to confirm that the bond strength far exceeds the level at which delamination would occur in service. Only after all of these checks — and a final visual audit of colour, grain direction and surface quality — is the product labelled with a lot number, wrapped and released.
Packaging and Traceability
Finished rolls are protected with moisture‑resistant film and packed in rugged cartons that preserve the Custom Edge Banding’s flatness.
