Quality Test
for Edge Banding & Hot Melt Adhesives
We look beyond appearance. At Shanghai Luyao Industry Co., Ltd., we focus on the material details that can influence color consistency, dimensional accuracy, trimming quality and adhesive performance in furniture production.
From edge banding to hot melt adhesives, we help customers clarify product requirements and evaluate materials for their intended applications.

Our approach
Testing Should Reflect Real Production
A roll can look good and still behave differently during machining. Adhesive can melt smoothly but may not bond as expected under every production condition. We believe useful quality checks should connect product characteristics with the way customers actually use the material.
Confirm the Specification
We clarify the required dimensions, color reference, substrate and intended application so the product is evaluated against the right requirements.
Check Relevant Properties
Depending on the product and agreed scope, checks may cover dimensions, appearance, flexibility, viscosity, thermal behavior or bonding performance.
Review the Application
Samples and practical trials can help customers assess compatibility with their panels, edge banding equipment and operating conditions.
01 / Edge banding
How We Evaluate Edge Banding Quality
For PVC, ABS, Melamine, Acrylic, Veneer and other decorative edge banding materials, appearance is only part of the picture. Dimensions, surface consistency and machining behavior can all influence the finished furniture edge.

Dimensional Accuracy
We focus on thickness and width in relation to the agreed product specification. Appropriate measuring tools and defined acceptance criteria help make dimensional checks more consistent.
Color Matching & Surface
We compare products with approved color references or customer samples, considering shade, texture and gloss. Where required, color-measurement equipment can support the evaluation.
Flexibility & Trimming
We consider cracking, edge appearance and whitening after trimming. Results can also depend on the material thickness, cutting tools, feed speed and machine settings.
Durability Requirements
For relevant applications, testing may include abrasion, cleaning-agent resistance, light exposure or dimensional stability. Each property requires a suitable method and clearly defined conditions.

Why We Ask for an Approved Reference Sample
For custom colors and repeat orders, an approved sample gives both sides a practical reference. It helps reduce misunderstandings about shade, texture and finish, especially when the same decorative design is reordered later.
- Confirm the color code or physical sample.
- Agree on dimensions and relevant tolerances.
- Identify the intended panel and processing method.
- Record product-specific acceptance requirements before production.
02 / Hot melt adhesives
How We Evaluate Hot Melt Adhesive Performance
Adhesive performance depends on the formulation, the materials being bonded and the way the production line is operated. We encourage customers to assess technical data alongside representative application trials.

Open Time & Setting Behavior
Open time and setting behavior influence how the adhesive interacts with the edge band and panel. Temperature, application amount, substrate and line speed can all affect the outcome.
Softening Point & Thermal Behavior
Softening point provides information about thermal behavior, but it is not the same as the recommended machine application temperature. The right operating window depends on the adhesive and process.
Melt Viscosity
Viscosity affects how an adhesive flows and wets a surface. Any viscosity result should be read together with its test temperature, measurement method and other stated conditions.
Bond Strength & Thermal Stability
Where required, a defined bond or peel test can help assess adhesion. Thermal-stability checks may also examine changes during heating under specified conditions.
Lab Results Need the Right Context
A measurement is meaningful only when its method and conditions are understood. For example, viscosity readings taken at different temperatures may not be directly comparable, and bond results depend on the materials and test setup.
For this reason, we recommend confirming the intended application, machine settings and substrate before choosing an adhesive solely by one specification value.
Important: Test methods, acceptance criteria and reported values should be specific to the product and supported by actual test records. We do not treat a general test description as proof that every listed test has been performed on every product.
03 / Working together
From Requirements to Product Evaluation
A clear process helps us focus on the properties that matter to your project, instead of applying the same checklist to every material and application.
Share Your Requirements
Tell us the dimensions, color reference, panel material, adhesive type and production conditions relevant to your project.
Confirm Samples & Criteria
Review suitable product options, available technical information and any test criteria that need to be agreed before evaluation.
Evaluate & Follow Up
Assess the sample under appropriate conditions, share observations and clarify any adjustments needed before a larger order.
Testing overview
Typical Quality Evaluation Items
The following table outlines possible evaluation areas. The actual scope depends on product type, customer requirements and available test methods.
| Product | Evaluation item | What it helps assess |
|---|---|---|
| PVC / ABS edge banding | Thickness and width | Dimensional conformity to the agreed specification |
| PVC / ABS edge banding | Color and surface | Visual consistency, texture and visible defects |
| Edge banding | Flexibility and trimming | Cracking, whitening and finished-edge appearance under defined conditions |
| Edge banding | Durability tests | Performance against specified abrasion, chemical or light-exposure requirements |
| EVA / PUR hot melt adhesive | Viscosity and softening point | Selected flow and thermal characteristics |
| EVA / PUR hot melt adhesive | Open time and setting behavior | Adhesive behavior within the intended process window |
| Adhesive + edge banding | Bond or peel evaluation | Bond performance for the specified materials and test setup |
This overview describes possible quality-evaluation items, not a claim that every test is performed on every product. Please request product-specific test information when needed.
