18mm Edge Banding

Granulation is the decisive step to determine the basic quality of PVC edge banding. Many small manufacturers cut corners to save costs, directly mix powder and put it into the extrusion line without granulation.

Defects of non-granulation production: Raw materials are unevenly mixed, finished edge banding has obvious surface particles, easy to break under force, white flower appears after trimming, seriously affecting furniture appearance and processing yield.

Our advantages:

1. Fully retain complete granulation procedure to guarantee uniform raw material plasticization;
2. Add an extra independent cooling procedure after granulation, enabling fully shaping & stress release of raw materials;
3. The finished 18mm edge banding has far better flexibility than conventional products on the market, not easy to crack in high-speed mechanical processing.

Extrusion determines finished size accuracy, surface texture and flatness of 18mm edge banding, we optimize multiple details against common industry problems:

1. Extended cooling section: Most factories shorten cooling length to boost output, resulting in residual internal stress and later bending deformation. We sacrifice partial production speed to lengthen the cooling section, completely release internal stress, effectively prevent edge banding bending and warping after rolling and use, guarantee tight fitting with 18mm boards;
2. Surface water blowing pretreatment: Thoroughly dry residual surface moisture before back gluing, fundamentally eliminate back glue peeling, degumming and poor adhesion;
3. Automatic constant glue supply system: Automatic gravity glue supply, no manual glue supplement, avoid intermittent glue shortage leading to local no-glue;
4. Inclined gluing structure: Optimize strip running angle to realize full-area contact between edge banding back and glue wheel, no missing glue at edges;
5. Full-automatic precise meter counter: Automatic length measurement, extremely small error, ensure accurate roll length, avoid insufficient meters (loss for buyers) or excessive length (material waste).

After extrusion, solid-color 18mm edge banding directly enters inspection, while wood grain edge banding is delivered to the printing workshop for texture processing.

Printing determines texture definition, wear resistance and anti-falling performance of wood-grain 18mm edge banding, and paint peeling is the most common after-sale complaint of cheap edge banding.

Many manufacturers cut printing steps (reduce primer, color printing or protective layer) to improve efficiency, leading to paint peeling and fading after several months of use.

Our fixed 5-step standard printing process:

1. Butanone surface wiping: clean dust, adjust molecular structure, improve coating adhesion;
2. Primer base coating;
3. First wood grain color overprinting;
4. Second wood grain color overprinting;
5. Matte/high-gloss protective topcoat covering. Complete 5-layer printing makes wood grain clear and three-dimensional, wear-resistant, scratch-resistant, long-term use without peeling, discoloration and abrasion.

All finished 18mm edge banding will pass appearance inspection, size inspection, flexibility test and adhesion test; defective products are isolated directly. Qualified products are rolled and packed with moisture-proof packaging for long-distance sea & air transportation, avoiding damp damage during international logistics.
