Edge Banding S011 Color and Texture Profile

Yosemite edge banding S011 is a medium wood tone with warm undertones, sitting between the lighter S010 and darker S012 in the Yosemite series. It is a versatile color that works across traditional and transitional furniture styles — kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, office desks, hotel furniture, and retail displays.

The surface uses a matte textured finish with registered embossing, meaning the wood grain print is aligned to the surface texture. When you run a finger across the edge, the grain pattern and the physical texture line up — the detail that makes the edge read as a continuation of the board rather than a separate plastic strip.

The matte finish minimizes fingerprints and hides minor scratches that occur during production and shipping, reducing the number of panels that get rejected for surface damage.

How S011 Is Manufactured？

The strip of PVC cannot be edge banded S011. Each roll undergoes a controlled production process with quality control at each step.

1. Raw material preparation:The ingredients: virgin PVC resin, impact modifiers, UV-stabilized pigments and processing aids are weighed and mixed based on the formula S011. Once the recipe is approved in colour it will be fixed and stored in our system – each batch will have the same recipe. Recycled material is not used.
2. Calendering:The mixed compound is then introduced into a calender line where it is heated, plasticized and extruded into a long strip of exact thickness. Laser gauges measure thickness continuously throughout the sheet width and the calender rolls automatically adjust to keep the tolerance within ±0.05 mm. S011 at 2 mm comes out of the calender as a uniform sheet of paper, with no thin or thick spots.
3. Printing:The wood grain pattern is printed on the gravure cylinder that has been specially engraved for the edge banding S011 design. Color is verified with the master and monitored at intervals at the beginning of each run. The registration between print colors is controlled to ±0.1 mm.
4. Embossing:The printed sheet is then embossed with a matte textured surface using an embossing roller. This is the registered embossing mentioned above that the embossing roller is registered to the print pattern, so that the grain texture is the same as the printed grain.
5. Slitting:The wide sheet is cut with rotary knives to the desired width (18 mm, 22 mm, 28 mm, etc.). The width tolerance is allowed within ±0.1 mm, which is measured using calipers at the beginning, middle and end of each roll.
6. Roll winding and packaging:The slit edge banding is wound with a constant tension to the specified length (50 m, 100 m, 200 m). Every roll is checked for joints, wrinkles and surface imperfections, is then boxed, coded with colour code (S011), thickness, width, roll length, batch number and production date.

Color Matching

A color match is only as good as the method behind it. Here is how S011 is matched to your board.

Step 1 — Reference measurement. When you send a board sample (minimum 10×10 cm), our lab measures it with a spectrophotometer under three light sources: D65 (standard daylight), A (incandescent), and TL84 (fluorescent office light). This gives us a complete color profile — not just a visual match under one type of light.

Step 2 — Formula development. The lab adjusts the edge banding S011 pigment formula to match the measured profile. This is iterative — the first trial is measured, compared to the target, and adjusted until ΔE is below 1.5 under all three light sources. ΔE ≤ 1.5 is below the threshold at which the human eye can distinguish a color difference under normal viewing conditions.

Step 3 — Sample approval. A 1–2 meter sample roll is produced from the approved formula and sent to you for visual confirmation on your actual board, under your actual lighting. If it is not right, we adjust and send another sample at no cost.

Step 4 — Retained master. Once you approve the color, we store a retained master sample of edge banding S011. Every future production batch is measured against this master, not against your original board. This ensures batch 1 matches batch 12, even if your board supplier changes slightly over time.

Step 5 — Batch verification. During production, color is checked at the start, middle, and end of each run. Any roll that falls outside ΔE ≤ 1.5 against the master is pulled and reworked.

Running S011 on Your Edge Bander

Edge banding S011 runs on all major automatic edge banding machines. Because it uses the same impact-modified PVC base as other Yosemite series colors, machine settings remain consistent when you switch between S010, S011, and S012.

Thin-edge (0.4–1.0 mm): EVA hot melt at 170–190°C, glue film 0.10–0.15 mm, pressure 0.3–0.4 MPa, line speed 15–25 m/min.

Thick-edge (2.0–3.0 mm): Pre-mill 2.0–3.0 mm with sharp cutters. EVA at 180–195°C or PUR at 125–135°C, glue film 0.12–0.20 mm, pressure 0.35–0.50 MPa, radius cutters R1.0–R1.5 mm, line speed 8–18 m/min.

The matte textured surface of edge banding S011 is more forgiving than gloss during trimming — minor tool marks are less visible. However, keep cutters sharp: dull cutters can cause micro-tearing on the textured surface that shows as a fuzzy edge.

For dark wood tones in the Yosemite series (including S011 if running a darker batch variant), the impact-modified formulation prevents corner whitening during radius trimming. If you do see whitening, check cutter sharpness first — it is the most common cause.
