What exactly is acrylic edge banding?
Acrylic edge banding—sometimes called PMMA edge banding, “3D edge banding,” or “high-gloss acrylic edge banding”—is an extruded edge banding profile made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a polymer belonging to the same class as optical-grade plastics.
Its importance lies in the fact that PMMA’s refractive index is close to that of glass. When you co-extrude a clear PMMA top layer with a colored or printed bottom layer, light refracts through the material’s surface. This is the “3D effect” you see in showrooms—and the primary reason why kitchen and wardrobe designers choose acrylic over PVC in high-end projects.
Our PMMA Edge Banding uses a two-layer co-extrusion process:
Top layer: Clear PMMA, 0.3-0.5 mm thick (depending on your desired product size)
Bottom layer: Colored, wood grain, stone grain, metallic, or two-tone
The two layers are fused together during the extrusion process—not glued or laminated. This is important because inexpensive PMMA Edge Banding on the market is usually just a thin layer of acrylic film over a colored PVC strip. They may look similar at first. However, in the humid environment of a kitchen and under UV exposure from windows, the edges of the film-coated edge banding will begin to peel off after 18 months. Co-extruded edge banding, on the other hand, will not.

Curved or post-molded edges, especially very small-radius curved edges (acrylic sheets are harder than PVC sheets; stress whitening occurs below R8 rating).

Can we replicate a panel manufacturer’s color?
We frequently match colors to EGGER, Kronospan, Wilsonart, Formica, Arauco and most local laminate manufacturers. Just provide us with the panel code or a sample and our color lab matches to within Delta-E 1.5 — so close that the edge and panel appear to be the same color under typical lighting. This is one of the most popular OEM services we offer. Furniture producers who are developing product lines based on certain laminate vendors need their PMMA Edge Banding to vanish into the panel face. Stock colors don’t usually match exactly across brands; custom matching is the way to go for serious furniture production.

Please send us the photos and your order number, if it is the production problem, we will refund you the amount of damage in 7 days. For OEM clients, the batch records will be kept for 3 years. If there are color deviations among different batches, we can trace to batch and rectify.
